About Us
Welcome to Blowsoc!
We are the University of Nottingham’s award-winning Wind, Brass and Percussion society. As a society we offer playing and conducting opportunities as well as a very active social scene to meet new people! We have 11 ensembles, all of which are unauditioned except for our Wind Orchestra and Moonlighters Big Band, and all of our ensembles perform regularly throughout the year at concerts and in the community.
We are open to everyone, whether you are a music student or not, and whether you have been playing your instrument for just a few weeks or for years; we have something for all levels of players!
Find us on our social media channels to see up to date rehearsal times, what we get up to, and find more information about our society.
Concerts
We hold a variety of concerts throughout the year. Amongst those are Christmas concerts, Wind Orchestra Concerts, collaboration concerts, Spring Concerts, tour concerts, outreach concerts, Brass and Big Band gigs; we’re always busy out and about playing music.
We also run a weekly Lunchtime Concert Series, in which each of our ensembles take it in turns to showcase their repertoire in a 45 minute concert for charity. The timetable for this will be coming out soon, so keep an eye on the Lunchtime Concert Facebook page linked below for updates.
“Everyone is so friendly and welcoming there’s so many memories – I remember turning up to the first blowsoc wednesday alone and was instantly met with helpful members and really felt like part of the society! Also clarinets is the best ensemble because we had the best/nicest members”.
– Ellen, Member from 2021-2024
